Shoot em’ up

David Hertog 2.JPG

We asked you for your photos and stories about the minor sports — from ping pong to archery –and they flooded in.   The one outstanding pursuit we would love to focus on is Charlton Heston’s favorite…  SHOOTING.  There are few better challenges to Camp’s system of checks and balances than placing heavy armament in the hands of seven year-olds down at the rifle range.  Here, David Hertog looks like he is about to go postal.  If you have shots of juvenile marksmanship in action…  we would love to see them.

When American Apparel was just a twinkle in Dov’s eye…

ElissaStein1.JPG

Elissa Stein sent in this beauty which could have come out of the front window of American Apparel.  If you have any tall tales of love and togertherness in the girls bunk, or of the Heathers variety, we would love to hear them.

All the world’s a stage…

Arthur-Reeta4.jpg

No less an expert than Arthur Miller once remarked that “theater is so endlessly fascinating because it is so accidental, like life.” There is nowhere that wisdom plays out more than at camp where standards like Guys & Dolls, Little Shop of Horrors, and Grease II are played out over and over, whilst the truly brave produce their own versions of Elie Weisel’s The Night, set to the music of Billy Joel. We kid you not. Whether you adapted an old classic, or created your own form of camp magic, we would love to hear from you. Thanks to Matthue Roth for this beauty.

the smell of Drakar fills the air

RachelCohen12.JPG

There is little in life as titillating as the anticipation of a camp social.  The preparation.  Donning the finest in fashion.  Blowing out that hair just right.  Soaking everything that moves in Charlie or Drakar.  Emerging from the bunk feeling that everything is possible.  Thanks to Rachel Cohen for this beauty.

Role Models for Today’s Youth

A Grossman Me and my creepy counseCopy.JPG

We are eager to see shots of your most memorable counselors — those you admired and emulated, had a crush on, feared or tortured. The critical ingredient of the camp experiment is the parent handing over authority to a motley crew of teenagers, average age, seventeen. If you have a tall story of what ensued, we would love to hear from you. Alex Grossman sent in this shot where he confidently holds on to his ghetto blaster while introducing himself to his bunk counselor on the first day of camp.  Camp Tamarack, Ortonville, Michigan.
